"I want to apologize to my fans, my parents and the Redskins," Jenkins said. "It was surprising news, it was an honest mistake. The NFL tells us to take supplements with NSF on it that are tested by the NFL. I take recovery and pre-workout supplements."
He said he took an over-the-counter recovery supplement from GNC. He is able to continue to practice with the team but before the regular season starts he will begin the suspension. He will then be eligible to rejoin the team on September 30.
Linebacker Rob Jackson has already been suspended for the first four games of the season for taking a banned substance. This comes a day after losing Keenan Robinson for most likely the season because of a torn pectoral muscle. Mike Shanahan said that he will have surgery in "about a week."
The Robinson injury doesn't just hurt the team this year, but moving forward this is a guy that the Redskins are hoping could take over for London Fletcher in the future.
"When we heard the news, it's just devastating," Brian Orakpo said. Orakpo suffered the same injury a year ago in the second game of the season and was lost for the year.
They have also lost Adam Carriker for about four to five months after he had his third surgery on his quad.
The news on the offensive side of the ball came from Pierre Garcon today. When talking to reporters, he said, "We have the potential to be the best offense ever, really."
"We have a lot of talent around us, we have a lot of players that when they get the ball, can take it to the house from anywhere on the field," Garcon said. "When you have all those guys mixed in, you have to game plan for a lot and its tough to game plan for everybody."
So, now you know how the wide receiver feels about the offense.
Mike Shanahan said that Robert Griffin III did approximately 30 minutes of work today. He continued to do the individual drills and some 7-on-7.
