Johnny Rotten joins cast of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'
WASHINGTON -- See Johnny "Rotten" Lydon like you've never seen, or imagined, him before in the latest revival of rock opera "Jesus Christ Supserstar."
Lydon will play King Herod in the musical. Joining the former Sex Pistol onstage is Incubus' Brandon Boyd, NSYNC’s JC Chasez and former Destiny’s Child’s singer Michelle Williams, Rolling Stone reports.
"In 1971, [co-writer Andrew Lloyd Webber] and I were thrilled by the first-ever Jesus Christ Superstar tour of the United States," Tim Rice says in the announcement.
"We certainly did not imagine then that 43 years later we would be witnessing another America-wide tour of our first big hit show. We are delighted and grateful that enthusiasm for Superstar has been maintained over the years and this new production presents the work in its most powerful format – as a true rock experience."
The new show comes to the Verizon Center Aug. 7. Click here for more info.
