'Daily Show' host Jon Stewart to direct first movie
WASHINGTON -- Funnyman Jon Stewart is trying his hand at something new and directing his first film.
"Rosewater" is based on the best-selling memoir, "Then They Came for Me," a "painstaking account of one journalists' 118 days of imprisonment and torture following the 2009 Iranian election," InsideMovies reports.
The film stars Gael Garcia Bernal -- one of Mexico's biggest talents and perhaps its most recognizable and internally acclaimed actors -- as imprisoned reporter Maziar Bahari.
Bahari and Stewart became close friends after the journalist's ordeal.
“It may not be what people expect from me; it’s not a comedy,” Stewart says of the film, which is slated to be released Nov. 7.
