ISIS the band gets confused with ISIS the terrorist group
WASHINGTON -- At this point, pretty much everyone knows the name ISIS.
But did you know that long before the terrorist group started making headlines with their horrific acts of violence there was a post-rock/ heavy metal band with the same name?
The latter has been around since the late-1990s and is no longer touring or recording. But that hasn't stopped some people from confusing the band ISIS with the terrorist group.
ABC News reports that the band has received death threats and messages from fans who refuse to wear their shirts.
"'It certainly caught us off guard,' Aaron Harris, the band's former drummer, tells ABC News. In an effort to distance itself from the group that recently beheaded American journalist James Foley, ISIS the band has changed its Facebook name.
“It is an unfortunate situation and of course a few less than enlightened people are not seeing the distinction between an inactive band of musicians and a band of terrorists involved in current world affairs,” a representative from Ipecac, the band’s label, tells ABC News.
