Freezing rain to impact Monday commute

Monday morning's commute is crawling along in parts due to icy road conditions and poor visibility.

WASHINGTON -- With a later-than-normal Monday morning rush hour, drivers are urged to drive with caution as some the rains continue and the temperatures hover near the freezing mark.

"The icy effects will continue to taper off as we go through the morning," says ABC7 Meteorologist Matt Ritter.

Road crews will keep monitoring the situation through the delayed morning commute.

"We want to keep a good eye on the situation," says Jennifer McCord, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Western Loudoun County in Virginia and Frederick County in Maryland saw icy road conditions Monday, particularly on roads that are less traveled.

Ritter says "there could be a refreeze" Monday night.

The commute was later than normal because a number of school systems opted to open late
