Hi everyone! Ready to talk Redskins? Leave a comment or a question right now and we'll start the discussion with WTOP's Redskins beat reporter George Wallace. Or tweet #WTOP #Redskins
Welcome to week three everyone. 0-3, that doesn't sound too good does it? Plenty to talk about from yesterdays game. What do you think happened? Let's talk about it for the next hour.
Let's get started with a question for George from the WTOP staff.
Do you think Robert Griffin III played better yesterday? How bad was the defense again?
How frustrated is the D-line with the secondary?
The secondary had another tough day yesterday. DeAngelo Hall did have an interception return for a touchdown but other than that the Lions had a ton of big plays. The defense got off the field in the 3rd quarter a good amount, but wasn't enough.
I do think Griffin took another step yesterday. He was running the zone read a number of times and we saw them move him around quite a bit more as well. \
Redskins fans: Do you think Griffin needs to be benched?
Belinda Johnson says via Facebook: RGIII need to spend less time in front of the camera and spend more time on the field with his offense. Two minute on the field is not going to win game. I know the Defense S**K real bad, no Defense in the NFL are going to do well if they on the field 80% of the time.
I think it's ridiculous to think that Griffin should be benched. That's not going to happen. They are going to have to let him play and get back to full strength after this injury. This was expected I think, but the bigger issue is the defense
Exactly Steve, the defense is a bigger issue right now. The secondary is young, yes, but the missed tackles are inexcusable at this level.
It's getting to a point where the offense is going to have to win games for them. The defense will be getting some help after the bye when Jarvis Jenkins and Rob Jackson return from suspensions.
Dorothy McColl Holmberg says via Facebook: Try cousins. RGIII. Needs to be replaced
Josh Thomas via Facebook: RG0and3. If you MD fans want a real football team, the Ravens bandwagon is now accepting applications.
The Redskins have allowed 1,464 yards over the 1st 3 games of the year. That's the most by any team in the Super Bowl era.
Do you like to see RG3 throw the ball 50 times a game?
There's no question that the incomplete pass to Robinson was a game changer. That would have changed the momentum and put the Redskins ahead. More importantly it would have given them the big play spark that this team has been looking for all season
The Griffin fumble was also costly. He had rushed for 21-yards then fumbled. We saw the burst of speed we had been waiting to see all year as well. The important thing there is that we did see the run from Griffin. It is there and we need to see it a little more and I think we will.
In the meantime, George: Megan from our staff wants to know where the pass rush was yesterday? What do you guys think?
Rick, the fumble call yesterday was correct. They changed that rule a couple years ago when Eli Manning had a simlar play. He wasn't touched therefore the ground can cause the fumble, which it did yesterday. The touchdown was very close, but you need to maintain control when you go to the ground and Robinson did not.
That's a good point Javier, Haslett did say last week that the toughest part is obviously not being able to communicate with players as they come off the field. He said he can see things better up there, but we will see if he makes a change if this continues.
I agree David, that was definitely a big momentum shift in the game. They were driving down the field and had opened up the offense a bit, then turnover.
I would like to see them get back to evening out the running and throwing. The first two games I will let slide because they were behind very early. Yesterday the game was close and Griffin still threw the ball 50 times. Only 15 carries for Morris yesterday.
No doubt Albert, Aldrick Robinson neeeds to catch that football. He's on this team for plays just like that.
