WASHINGTON — Unless you have an insulated mug you’ve probably noticed that your morning coffee hasn’t been staying as piping hot, with our recent frigid temperatures.
That got us to thinking in the Glass Enclosed Nerve Center — which morning drink would freeze most quickly if left outside?

DC-area man attaches snow plow to motorized toilet
WASHINGTON (AP) — Talk about a pooper scooper.
A man in suburban Washington, D.C. has created a snow plow using a motorized toilet.
David Goldberg of Rockville, Maryland, attached a plow to the motorized toilet, which he had already made for a parade this past summer. The contraption, which he calls “Loo-cy,” comes with a toilet paper stand and a magazine rack.

Cold snap could cost local economy $10 million dailyAPWASHINGTON — The snow and dangerously cold temperatures impacting the D.C. region this week have the potential to drain millions of dollars from the local economy, according to a company that studies consumer behavior.
“We have seen that the D.C. market might be more sensitive to that type of winter activity versus other cities in the U.S.,” says Maria Maldonado, client services manager at Planalytics.
With fewer people out and about, businesses are seeing less traffic, taking in less money and economic activity is dropping.
“People are not leaving their houses. People are not going out to lunch. They’re not going out to dinner,” Maldonado says.

On Twitter, #CloseFCPS is trending Thursday morning as students voice frustrations that school was not delayed or closed. Many other school systems in the region issued two-hour delays. Some others outside of the immediate metro area are closed.

Several Virginia cities shiver in record-breaking cold
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Temperatures fell to record levels in several Virginia cities on Thursday as a cold snap maintained its grip on the state.
The bitter cold broke a century-old record in Lynchburg. The National Weather Service says the low temperature was 4 degrees on Thursday. The previous record for Feb. 19 was 8 degrees in 1903.

Everyone agrees: It's cold, but could get colder across the U.S.Much of the U.S. continued to shiver and suffer in bitter cold Thursday. Temperatures and wind chills dipped near zero or below in the Midwest, Northeast and even the South — where people were most unaccustomed to the weather-related road hazards, school cancellations, public transportation and airport delays, and runs on supplies at stores.
The cold snap followed snow and ice storms earlier in the week. The low temperatures caused much freezing and refreezing of snow, ice and roads.
Most areas shouldn’t expect relief anytime soon — the National Weather Service warned that even colder weather could come later in the week as another cold front drops from Canada. That weather could be some of the coldest for parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, forecasters said.
