New faces join Nats amid injuries
By: Andrew Mollenbeck
VIERA, Fla. – The Nats clubhouse became the site of an informal meet-and-greet Tuesday morning, as two new players joined the team.
Outfielder Matt den Dekker unpacked his gear from a Mets travel bag, while he got ready to play against, oddly, the Mets.
“It’s been a whirlwind kind of emotions and excitement to be over here,” he said shortly after arriving.
Den Dekker picked up his first Major League hit and home run at Nationals Park, so it has already been a special place to him.

From aces to duffers: how the Nats play golf
By: Andrew Mollenbeck
VIERA, Fla. — Being a pro in one sport doesn’t guarantee aptitude in another.
During their down time, some of the Nationals like hitting nearby golf courses.
Their abilities are far from equal.
Pitcher Craig Stammen is the undisputed top golfer in the clubhouse, having fired a one-under 71 this spring.
Teammates have come begging for mercy.

Scherzer injects competition in the clubhouse
By: Andrew Mollenbeck

“On any given day, we have competitions all over the place with Max and people,” says manager Matt Williams. “That’s great, that they take the time to challenge each other.”
The latest challenge came Thursday evening, one day removed from Scherzer’s six-inning, scoreless start in which he fanned nine batters. This time, he challenged starter Gio Gonzalez.
