Summer rainstorm dumps 6 to 10 inches over parts of Md.
WASHINGTON - The skies have cleared over D.C., but another round of heavy rain will move in this evening, adding to the several inches of rain that fell earlier today.
A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for most of the WTOP listening area through 2 a.m. Wednesday, except for Frederick County in Md., and Loudoun and Fauquier Counties in Virginia.
The weather service estimates that as of 5 p.m., the northern portion of Anne Arundel County saw 4 to 10 inches of rain, and another inch was expected before the system crossed the bay.
Scattered power outages have been reported across the listening area.
Anne Arundel rescuers responded to 26 stranded vehicles this afternoon. Meanwhile, water flooded cars parked at BWI airport, and caused the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood emergency.
"I can't remember this much rain falling in this amount of time," says ABC7 meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts.
Multiple water rescues were needed elsewhere in Maryland earlier in the day.
Montgomery County teams responded to at least eight cars stuck in flood waters around lunchtime Tuesday. One woman who was rescued told WTOP that she was OK but a little embarrassed after she was pulled out of water-logged Beach Drive near Cedar Lane.
Hazardous road conditions due to high water are continuing in Anne Arundel, Prince George's County and in the Reston area of Fairfax County in Virginia. The exits at Massachusetts and Connecticut Avenues, southbound on Rock Creek Parkway in D.C., are also blocked due to high water.
Downed trees were also reported blocking lanes along area roads throughout the day. Flooding also caused delays along several MARC lines and VRE.
The storms also closed the Prince William County Fair, and carnival rides were shut down at the Montgomery County Fair.
