D.C. restaurant named best new restaurant in the countryBon Appetit is out with its list of the 10 best new restaurants in the U.S., and a D.C. restaurant tops the list: Rose's Luxury. The publication calls the no-reservation Barrack's Row spot a "game changer," praising its service, its eclectic menu and its chef."There is a lot that sets it apart, starting with the warm, farmhouse-style dining room, kitchen-counter seating, and atrium glowing with string lights. There is the knowledgeable and friendly service. And, of course, the eclectic menu: Southern comfort food threaded with globe-trotting ingredients and ideas from Southeast Asia, Mexico, Italy, and France," Bon Appetit reports.Rose's Luxury opens its doors at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, but most nights, a line of hungry customers forms outside of its white and green facade long before the staff unlocks the doors. The restaurant recently opened a private roof garden, which seats eight to 10 guests on most nights. The set menu features a cocktail hour, hors d'oeuvres and a changing, specialized menu.Rose's main menu is a mix of small plates and family-style dishes, and its laid-back and welcoming decor (you'll feel like you're in a friend's kitchen, not a restaurant -- complete with mismatched silver and plates) is just as impressive as the food that comes out of the kitchen. This is not the first bit of national praise Rose's has received. The restaurant was recently a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant for the 2014 James Beard Awards.Read Bon Appetit's full interview with Chef Aaron Silverman.Rose's Luxury is located at 717 8th Street SE in Washington, D.C.(Courtesy Rose's Luxury Facebook)The smoked brisket, white bread, horseradish and slaw family-style platter at Rose's Luxury.
